About Anita
Anita Cox - Director and Clinical Psychologist
Hi there, I’m so glad you’ve found The Joyful Psych. My name is Anita Cox and I completed my Master of Clinical Psychology at Griffith University in Brisbane, and am currently registered as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). I am endorsed in the area of Clinical Psychology.
At The Joyful Psych, I provide evidence-based assessment and therapy for children experiencing a range of developmental, learning, emotional and behavioural differences. I work with children and families where there may be questions around ADHD, autism, anxiety, OCD, depression, emotional regulation, executive functioning, sensory sensitivities, social difficulties, and learning differences.
My approach is warm, practical and collaborative. I work closely with parents and caregivers to understand each child’s strengths, differences, development, learning profile, emotional wellbeing and day-to-day functioning. Where appropriate, assessments may explore areas such as cognitive ability, academic achievement, attention, behaviour, social-emotional functioning, and screening for neurodevelopmental or mood-related differences.
In therapy, I work with evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), while making sessions feel approachable and child-friendly. You will often find me sitting at a small table, using visuals, activities, stories, games, or working on the floor with children so the space feels relaxed, safe and engaging.
My goal is to help children feel heard, understood and supported, while giving families clear guidance and practical strategies. I believe children should feel empowered in the therapy room and that parents should leave with a stronger understanding of their child and the next steps available.
I look forward to meeting you and supporting your family.
